Shunned by your Own Kind

When a good friend sent me this article titled “Ultra-Orthodox Jews Shun Their Own for Reporting Child Sex Abuse”, I had chills down my spine. The article touches on a young man who spoke out about his sexual abuse and how he and his family where driven away from their community. I don’t know about you but I can swear with both my hands that community and belonging is the only path to healing from any kind of adversity. If we don’t feel, inside of ourselves a sense of belonging and community we spend all our time in fight or flight and no time healing. Today I came across a follow up story to the NYTimes article and was tipped over the edge to say my piece. 96 cases, of rape, sodomy, incest, kidnapping and sex attacks on children. Patterns are appearing and you can be certain this is only the beginning. People are finding comfort in speaking out and a community is growing. They may not live in one place and believe in one god but the support is growing and my deepest hope is everyone finds the courage to speak out, no matter your age or circumstance, SPEAK OUT and start the process to Thriving.
